The communications centre (1) has a card operating system (4) to retrieve data from the card or write data on the card, and a telecommunications system (2) for local input or output (5,6,9) of telecommunications information into or out of the centre. The card operating system and the telecommunication system each have a dedicated, bidirectional channel, which is independent of other channels (18,19), in a closed telecommunications network interface (7) to at least one telecommunication network.
