The synthetic cork comprises a hard plastic top having a first diameter coupled to a shaft comprising a thermoplastic elastomer having a second diameter, wherein the second diameter of the shaft is smaller than the first diameter of the top, and wherein the second diameter is shaped to removably seal the opening of the bottle.
