889,938. Animal restraining appliances. DE FILIPPI, G. B. May 13, 1960 [May 16, 1959], No. 16907/60. Class 81 (2). An animal restraining appliance comprises one or more forked units 13 which are rotatable and bend to depend from an elevated horizontal rail 14, there being co-operating adjustable stops for determining the direction in which the or each forked unit may be turned about the rail. The rail 14 is rotatably supported on two or more spaced pillars 10c so that it is spaced above railings 10, 10a, 10b separating the animals from a manger by a distance B which is sufficient to receive an animal's head. In each of the spaces between adjacent pillars there is an open-topped gap in the railings of a width A which is only sufficient to receive an animal's neck. A forked unit 13 is rotatable on the rail above each gap in the railings, collars 16 adjustably fixed on the rail preventing movement of the units along the rail. Each collar carries a stop 17 in the path of rotation of an arm 13a of the corresponding forked unit. The rail may be rotated by a flanged head 18 which has four holes 18a selectively engageable with a fixed screw 20 to hold the rail in one of four positions. The position of the stops may thus be adjusted relative to the forked unit so that (a) the forked unit swings freely to enable the animal to pass its head between the rail and the railings in either direction; (b) the forked unit can be supported by a stop above the rail so that the space between the rail and the railings is unobstructed; (c) the forked unit cannot be swung towards the manger so that the animal cannot reach the manger; or (d) the forked unit will only swing from its vertically depending position towards the manger so that once the animal has passed its head between the rail and the railings it cannot withdraw it. The collars 16 are independently adjustable so that one or more forked units may be independently controlled by the stops. The railings and pillars may be replaced by brick or masonry. |
