A process for producing 2-aminomalonic acid derivatives of general formula (1) (wherein A is linear or branched alkylene having 1 to 10 carbon atoms; R<1> is linear or branched alkyl having 2 to 20 carbon atoms; R<2> and R<3> may be the same or different and each represents lower alkyl or aralkyl; and R<4> is a protective group) characterized by reducing compounds of general formula (6) (wherein A, R<1>, R<2>, R<3> and R<4> are each as defined above.
