The top section and cover can be removed for ease of transport. The coffin has a cover joined to one of the coffin side walls (2), either releasably, or permanently by hinges. The cover and at least part of the coffin wall can be separated from the rest of the coffin. Preferably, positioning aids for the cover are provided on the coffin wall to which it is attached.
