The adapter device (2) has contact pins (12) for providing a data exchange connection with the memory module (4) incorporated in the chip card (1). A memory element contains a processor programme and the adapter has a voltage supply. A key is held in the memory element of the adapter device for allowing access to specific memory locations of the memory module.
