NICKEL PLATE FOR ALKALINE STORAGE BATTERY AND MANUFACTURE THEREOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nickel plate for an alkaline storage battery, capable of greatly suppressing a capacity reduction at high temperatures. SOLUTION: A nickel-sintered base material is dipped into nitric acid so as to have over its surface a layer of α-Ni(OH)2 . The base material is dipped into an aqueous solution of cobalt nitrate, then into an alkaline solution so as to have over the surface a layer of the solid solution of Ni and Co(OH)2 . The nickel-sintered base material is thereafter heated in atmosphere for oxidation so as to have over the surface a layer of the solid solution of Ni and Co3 O4 . Those procedures produce a nickel-sintered base. The obtained base is impregnated with an active material including Co.
