PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To monitor the abnormality of a coil, e.g., disconnection or short circuit, of each phase coil during the operation of a motor by detecting the pulse output from a conduction terminal. SOLUTION: Voltage detection means 6u-6w, 7u-7w detects voltages Vu, Vv, Vw at the conduction terminals U, V, W of each phase coil of an electric motor 12 having interconnected m (>=3) phase coils which are rotary driven through a motor driver for switching the conduction coil in time series by conducting a PWM pulse in series to n (m>n>=2) phase electric coils. Depending on the combination of conducting n phase electric coils (e.g., U, V) and the conducting direction (from U to V), a coil abnormality detection means 1 makes a decision whether a conduction coil U is disconnected or short-circuited, based on the voltage at conduction terminals U, V which have been predetermined for that conduction mode, i.e., the voltage (Vv, Vw) detected by the voltage detection means 6u-6w, 7u-7w. The present system is also applicable to coils other than PWM pulse conduction. |
