摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a dispersion correcting optical fiber to cope with a long distance, high speed, wide-band optical transmission, etc., and also to provide it at a low price by winding it on a reel, etc., as a short length optical fiber and constituting a necessary length by connecting necessary pieces in series. SOLUTION: This dispersion correction purpose optical fiber is inserted in an optical fiber line so that dispersion becomes zero in a 1.3μm band and a total of dispersions in a 1.55μm band becomes approximately zero by connecting the optical fiber with a single mode optical fiber having positive dispersions in a 1.55μm band. Here, the insertion is constituted by directly connecting in series a plurality of dispersion correcting optical fibers having negative dispersion values. Further, a plurality of dispersion correcting optical fibers having negative dispersion values are connected by fusion splicing. Moreover, a dispersion correcting unit is constituted by connecting a plurality of dispersion correcting optical fibers which are wound on separate reels and have negative dispersion values, Since a length of optical fiber wound on a reel, etc., is short, returning work on the reel flanges is reduced. Connection is performed by fusion splicing with little connection loss, therefore, that prevents FOM value (quotient of dispersion value to loss value) from being decreased.
