PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a storage medium which optionally constructs a system that is needed by the owner of the storage medium by making a storage medium having an electronic circuit part a heart part of a system and making a body side peripheral equipment. SOLUTION: An ID 1 consists of a disk part 3 that is a disk surface which stores information and, e.g. an intelligent circuit part 2 that is mounted at its central part. The part 2 includes ROM which stores fixed information, further, RAM as a temporary storage if necessary and a CPU that executes programs which are stored in the ROM and the RAM. When the ID 1 is inserted into a drive, the part 2 checks a machine type, etc., of a system side. It selects an optimum OS that corresponds to the machine type of the other party and instructs an optical disk drive unit 11 to load it. A selected OS is loaded, for instance, on a hard disk that is buffer memory 16 through DMA, and the OS is started after the load is finished.
