The bruising plate is mounted on hinged arms to enable it to be moved in order to alter the size of the feed and discharge openings in the harvesting region. A crop harvesting machine consists of a framework, a shaft rotatably mounted in the framework, rotors mounted on the shaft, and a bruising plate protruding over part of the rotors. The front and back sides of the bruising plate define the feed and discharge openings of the harvesting region formed between the plate and rotors. An adjustment device is used to alter the position of the plate relative to the shaft. The plate is suspended in the framework from two hinged arms at either end, which are used to move the plate within the framework. The adjustment device is used to move the plate between a first position where the sizes of the feed and discharge openings are at a minimum and maximum respectively, and a second position where this is reversed.
