PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove impurities in an electrical double layer capacitor, by a method wherein specified inorganic oxide fine grains of a high ratio surface area and a low water content are added to an organic electrolyte used to the capacitor and a high- molecular solid electrolyte. SOLUTION: An electrical double layer capacitor is one obtainable by a method wherein a polarized material, such as a carbon material, is dispersed in a high- molecular binder and the material is molded into a capacitor, or is manufactured by a method wherein polarized electrodes 2 impregnated with tan organic electrolyte of a content of less than 1000 ppm are vertically arranged in parallel to the molded material obtained in such a way via an ion conductive layer 3. The layer 3 is formed in such a way that one kind of inorganic oxide fine grains which have a BET ratio surface are of more than 50 m<2> /g comprise primary grains of the largest grain diameter of less than 0.1 μm and have a water content of less than 5000 ppm, are made to contain in the layer 3 in an extent of 1 to 50 wt.%. As a result, impurities in the capacitor can be removed and the stability, safety and reliability of the capacitor are not only increased but the current characteristics of the capacitor can be enhanced. |
