PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the reflection type liquid crystal display element which makes a light white display and a sufficiently dark black display, obtains a high contrast, and has small visual angle dependency. SOLUTION: The reflection type liquid crystal display element consisting of a polarizer 11, a birefringent film layer 12, front scattering film layers 10a and 10b which are nearly free of back scattering characteristics and have strong front scattering characteristics, and a liquid crystal cell 13 which has a mirror surface reflecting plate includes at least one front scatter film layer includes at least one front scatter film layer having a scatter angle range which is asymmetrical about the normal of the film. The front scatter film layer of the reflection type display element is constituted by laminating the front scatter film whose scatter angle range is asymmetrical about the film normal so that the projection direction of the center angle direction of the scatter angle range to the film surface is different. |
