The wire cage (12), protecting e.g. a self-contained emergency light (10), is secured at either end (P) to a moulded retaining base (20), screwed, like the light, to a wall or ceiling (11). Bent tabs (13), fixed to end stirrups (15), permit direct attachment, if desired, to the latter surface. Alternatively, these stirrups instead to snap-fit holders (25) on top of each base. A moulded cap (22) is then fixed, by two screws, on each base, trapping the stirrup to form a hinge about which the cage can swing aside (F2), giving access to the lamp, after freeing the opposite end. A cross-wire (18) at the hinged end rides over (54) the part-cylindrical cap till a boss (70) holds it fully open.
