The electricity meter has phase conductors (4,5,6) and neutral plate, with the inputs and outputs of the phase conductors and neutral plate being placed within the meter box parallel and co-planar to each other. A metallic bar (13) is connected to neutral and situated in the box a small distance from the inputs and outputs of the phase conductors (4,5,6). The distance is such that the spaces (124,125,126) between the phase conductors (4-6) and the bar (13) is small enough that a controlled arc can propagate between any of the phase conductors and the neutral bar in the case of a too high voltage.
