Bank of cross-flow filter cassettes separated by seals with passages

A cross-flow filter has a number of identical filter cassettes which are separated by matching seals (1) with openings (3, 4, 5) in the peripheral zone (2). The openings are linked to the passages in the filter cassette, e.g. opening (3) is linked to the fluid inlet passage (4), the filtrate outlet (5) and retentate passages. The peripheral zone (2) is made of pref. is made of e.g. silicon, polyurethane, epoxy-resin, rubber or similar. The peripheral zone (2) surrounds a chamber (6) enclosed by parallel side walls (7, 8). One frame (2) sidewall has a passage (9) which my be shut. The flow of fluid through the cassette is regulated by fluid which is forced into or sucked from the chamber (6) which changes thickness as a result. The novelty is that: (a) the tile-shaped seals have passages in the peripheral area (2) which are analogue to the filter cassette contours; (b) the thickness of the chamber (6) may be varies; (c) that the peripheral zone has a passage (9) which may be opened or closed; (d) also claimed is a process top operate the filter.
