A subterranean zone having a temperature above 76 DEG C (170 DEG F) is plugged by introducing into the zone an aqueous solution of a polymerizable monomer, a polymerization initiator and a high temperature polymerization inhibitor, and allowing the polymerizable monomer to polymerize to form a sealing or plugging gel.
