The gas generator for a vehicle airbag, has a tubular holder (30) to keep the filter and cooling unit in position. The holder with the filter and cooling unit (26), together form a wall of the combustion chamber. At least one of the housing sections (12) has a profiled contact surface, with shape stability where the matching counter surface pressed against it has a lower mechanical hardness. The filter and cooling unit are sealed (32) by silicon foam against the housing sections (14,16).
