Method of and device for compensating the tension forces over the width of a running web

The paper or foil length (3) moves over rollers (4-6), one of which is a pivoted tension compensation roller (5). A torque applied by the length to one of the rollers is measured and regulated to a set reference value by active pivoting of the compensation roller. The torque is measured by measuring both bearing forces (F) of one roller, preferably the compensation roller, and calculating the difference. The device has adjusting drives engaging on the shaft ends (9) of the tension compensation roller. The drives are in active connection with a regulator unit, which is influenced by the torque in the paper length.
