The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing radiographic intensifying screens comprising the steps of (1) preparing a phosphor dispersion, (2) spraying said phosphor dispersion onto a substrate, and (3) sintering the resulting phosphor layer and to an improved X-ray intensifying screen consisting essentially of a support base, a binderless phosphor layer and a top-coat, wherein said binderless phosphor layer comprises a sintered phosphor. <IMAGE>
