Papermaking blanket

The blanket structure, to carry a fibre web through the drying section, has a woven or grid formation (2). At least part of the structure (2) towards the web caries an elastic cladding (3) with a profiled surface. Preferably the cladding (3) is of an elastic base material, with embedded hard particles which project from the surface when the cladding is relaxed. The base material, together with the particles, is applied to the blanket surface, and part of the outer surface of the cladding is chemically removed. The cladding (3) is an open-pore elastic foam, preferably of polyurethane or rubber.
