The brake pedal (1) of a road vehicle has a hinge point (2) and operates against a linkage (16,18) with the bottom coupled to a tube (10). The tube forms part of a link (7) that has a rod (12) that slides in the tube. The rod is hinged (13) and operates the braking unit (3). In the event of a frontal collision the rod enters the tube which is not displaced.
