<p>An automotive lens and lamp system utilizing diffractive optics includes an automotive lens which generates a predetermined light pattern when used in conjunction with an automotive light source and a reflector. The lens includes an automotive lens body optically-transmissive to light emitted by the light source and reflected from the reflector. A diffractive grating is formed on the surface of the lens body to phase-shift the wavefront of the light passing through the lens body. The diffractive grating comprises a non-holographic microstructure having a pattern predetermined to cause the light passing through the lens body to generate the predetermined light pattern.</p> |
