PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the color filter which makes it easy and secure to set the thickness of a liquid crystal layer and the color liquid crystal display device which uses a color filter like this and has superior display quality. SOLUTION: The color filter 1 is equipped with a substrate 2, colored layers 5 of different colors formed in specific pattern on the substrate 2, and columnar projection parts 6 which are formed at a non-display pixel part on the substrate 2 to nearly uniform density, the cross sectional area of each columnar projection part 6 is 25 to 1500 μm<2> , and the total of the cross sectional areas of the columnar projection parts 6 is 0.05 to 1.5% of the total of the display pixel part area; and this color filter 1 has the respective columnar projection parts 6 arranged opposite semiconductor driving elements on a semiconductor driving element array substrate and a liquid crystal layer is charged hermetically in the gap part between the semiconductor driving element array substrate and color filter 11 to obtain the color liquid crystal display device.
