PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent effect of a cumulative drift error with the lapse of time from showing up between specific adjacent machined elements in the case of all-round circulating type machining. SOLUTION: In the case of machining a large number of code elements of a code plate of a rotary encoder, the whole periphery is divided in the N-number (N>3) of blocks including the nearly equal number of code elements, and block numbers of B1 to BN are imparted in order counter-clockwise (clockwise). Machining is performed alternately in order clockwise and counterclockwise around a block of an arrow mark number 1 (the first in machining order) such as arrow mark number 1 (B1)→arrow mark number 2 (BN)→arrow mark number 3 (B2)→arrow mark number 4 (BN-1)→...→arrow mark number N-3→arrow mark number N-2→arrow mark number N-1→arrow mark number N. As the machining order of code element units in the same block, only counterclockwise (clockwise) order can also be used, or counterclockwise and clockwise order can be combined. Since the adjacent code elements prominently large in machining time difference do not exist, no effect of a cumulative drift error with the lapse of time shows up between the specific adjacent code elements.
