PURPOSE:To obtain hollow spheres of sodium sulfate having a relatively large outside diameter, a large effective hole volume and a great affinity for a soln. by heating an aq. slurry contg. prescribed amts. of sodium sulfate and a surfactant, spraying the heated slurry into a flow of hot gas, dehydrating and drying the sprayed slurry. CONSTITUTION:An aq. slurry contg. 40-70wt.% sodium sulfate and 0.025-0.8wt.% surfactant such as dialkyl sulfosuccinate is prepd., heated to at least 35 deg.C, sprayed into a flow of hot gas at 300-450 deg.C, dehydrated and dried to obtain hollow spheres of sodium sulfate having 100-500mum average outside diameter and at least 0.5% effective hole volume and useful as a carrier for a detergent, a herbicide, etc. Each of the spheres is made of an anhydrous microporous solid shell based on sodium sulfate and contg. 0.05-1.5wt.% surfactant. |
