PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: A pair of card readers 3a and 3b is vertically arranged in a card reading device 1. An electric motor 30 which drives belts 20a and 20b of both readers 3a and 3b is provided with output shafts 37a and 37c. Also, detecting means 9a and 9b which detect the insertion of a card are provided at the back of their card inserting slot members 8a and 8b. Shutters 10a and 10b which open and close card inserting paths 7a and 7b based on detection by the means 9a and 9b are provided.
