PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a catalyst for the alkylation of an isoalkane capable of reducing the amt. of a heavy material produced as a byproduct and increasing the yield of a branched alkane by using a zirconium halide and a sulfate, a basic sulfate, a copper halide, etc. SOLUTION: The catalyst for the alkylation of an isoalkane with an alkene contains a zirconium halide (catalytic component A) and a compd. (catalytic component B) selected from among a sulfate, a basic sulfate, a copper halide, etc., as essential components. The zirconium halide is preferably a zirconium tetrahalide such as zirconium tetrachloride or zirconium tetrabromide. The catalytic component B is used by <=1,000 mol. preferably 0.001-500 mol. per 1 mol. of the catalytic component A. |
