<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control the irradiation position of a laser beam so that it is always emitted onto the center line of a groove by moving the laser beam in the groove width direction in the manner that a molten pool or a key hole is uniformized left and right with respect to the center line of the groove. SOLUTION: Materials 1, 1 to be welded are butt-welded by a laser beam. In this case, a molten pool 5 or a key hole 4 is observed simultaneously with a groove 2. Then, the laser beam is moved in the direction of the groove 2 width so that the molten pool 5 or the key hole 4 is uniformized left and right with respect to the center line of the groove 2. With the left end AL and the right end AR of the molten pool 5 each detected, the laser beam is moved in the groove 2 width direction so that the distance between the left end AL and the groove 2 center line is made equal to the distance between the right end AR and the groove 2 center line. The left end AL, BL and the right end AR, BR are detected through a picture processing.</p> |
