A two-part grommet is used to releasably secure a tablecloth to a table containing a hole for a sunshade stand. A protective device for a cloth (3), e.g. tablecloth, containing an opening (4) for e.g. a sunshade stand, comprises a top ring section (1) pressed against the upper side of the cloth around the opening, and a bottom section (2) which engages with the top ring section on the opposite side of the cloth.
