The docking assembly comprises a plug 1 formed at the proximal end 2 of the guidewire 3, and a socket formed of a tubing 4 permanently bent so as to have a V shaped portion 5 comprised between two straight portions 6 and 7. The end of straight portion 7 is affixed to the distal end of extension wire 9. A sleeve 10 is slidably engaged over the tubing 4 to substantially straighten it and facilitate insertion of plug 1 into the tubing. Removal of sleeve 10 allows the tubing to recover its preshaped deformation, thereby assuring locking of plug 1 in tubing 4. To release the assembly it suffices to pull the guidewire and extension wire oppositely to slip the plug 1 out from the tubing 4.
