The invention relates to a method, a structure and a communications network for transporting data packets, receive addresses being contained in said data packets. The communications network consists of linked bi-directional rings with so-called multiple nodes which switch between adjacent rings, and so-called single nodes which are arranged along the periphery of a ring as so-called add-drop multiplexers. The network is provided with a tree structure during initialisation. The multiple nodes are the nodes of said tree structure and each branch consists of two segments which accommodate the add-drop multiplexers (2, 3, 5). All of the data packets follow the shortest paths in relation to said tree structure, and the routing information provided at the initialisation stage is sufficient so that in the case of a breakdown in one segment only the single nodes of the segment and the at most two adjacent multiple nodes have to make new routing decisions. A multiple node is able to do so just from knowing the port connected to the defective segment, and the single node concerned is able to do so just from knowing which single nodes can still be reached in the direction of the defect. |
