The invention concerns a polynucleotide coding for the large subunit (L) of the polymerase of RSVB paramyxoviruses and the polypeptide coded by said polynucleotide. The invention also concerns a method for diagnosing RSVB viruses in a biological sample using all or part of the polypeptide of the large subunit (L) of the polymerase of RSVB paramyxoviruses or antibodies identifying such a polypeptide. The invention further concerns polynucleotides derived from genes coding for the large subunit (L) of the polymerase of the Paramyxovidridae family useful as nucleotide probe and/or primers for specific and/or differential detecting of these viruses, in particular of RSVA, RSVB and PIV3 Paramyxovidridae and a detection kit containing them.
