The present invention relates to a coloured porous material comprising in its pores an effectively colouring amount of an organic pigment which is obtainable by fragmenting a meltable or solvent-soluble pigment precursor, and to a process for its preparation. The present invention also relates to the use of the instant coloured porous material powders as pigments for high molecular weight organic materials.
