The barrier has a horizontal rail (1) made of wooden sections (3) assembled end to end on a metal frame, supported by posts (2) and separated from the posts by spacers (4). Each of the spacers is a long section of wood placed vertically and fixed by its lower end to a post. The upper end extends above the post and supports part of the metal frame (5). The fixing point of the metal frame to the spacer is higher than the upper edge of the post. The metal frame consists of two horizontal splice plates, one plate (5) is attached to the spacer and the other (7) which is positioned on the other side of the wooden components (3) is housed in a horizontal groove (10). The two plates are assembled using bolts which pass through the wood. The spacer has a vertical groove (6) which the post fits into and they are fixed together by a single bolt (8) above the middle of the height of the spacer.
