Acoustic transmitter array for sea bed oil prospecting

The acoustic transmitter array has a floating unit (401) floating on the sea surface (402). The unit holds a cable (404) holding a number of acoustic transducers (403). The transducers are driven by vibrating motors and each is intended to produce acoustic impulses with a particular spectral characteristic. The transducers are fixed in positions along the cable such that the energy emitted towards the seabed is in phase with that reflected from it. Preferably the fixing locations for the transducers are chosen so as to reconstruct an acoustic impulse by superposition of the emitted waves.
