The invention relates to a one-sided pneumatic impact tool in which a percussion piston (11) is guided inside a hollow driving piston (8), which in turn can be axially displaced in an impact tool housing (7). A volume of air enclosed by the driving piston (8) and the percussion piston (11) can be brought into connection with a crank chamber (7a) and an impacting chamber (7b) via idling openings (14), a recess (15) and longitudinal channels (16). This equalizes the pressure so that the impact tool shifts into an idling position. The timing of the shift into the idling position and the resumption of impaction can be precisely set by means of a control edge (17) fixed to the housing. The impact tool provided for by the invention is characterized by good starting characteristics and reliable change-over to idling.
