Cephalosporin compounds (I) represented by general formula (I) or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof: wherein R<1> represents hydrogen or an amino-protective group; R<2> represents hydrogen, lower alkyl or a hydroxy-protective group; R<3> represents optionally esterified carboxy; and R<4> represents optionally substituted thiazolyl. These compounds (I) or their pharmaceutically acceptable salts are excellent in absorbability via the digestive tracts when administered orally and have a sufficient antimicrobial activity over a broad range of bacteria, which makes them highly useful as preventives and remedies for infectious diseases (in particular, microbisms).
