<p>A capacitive switch assembly (10) comprises an elastomeric sheet actuator (26) for elastically supporting a switching member (22) above a capacitive element comprised of a pair of conductive plates (14), (16) and a dielectric sheet (18). The elastomeric sheet supports the switching member so that upon user actuation to compress the elastomeric element, the switching member is directed to engage the capacitive element and selectively compress to effectively form a variable capacitor. Resilient deformation of the switching member can further vary the capacitance of the capacitor in an electrically detectable manner. <IMAGE></p> |
