In one embodiment, images are alternately provided to different sensor arrays (4) and the outputs from the sensor arrays outputs are then interleaved. In other embodiments, portions of an image are split among sensor arrays and then the sensor arrays' outputs are combined (11) to produce a recorded image. By time dividing images or by image splitting, these systems can achieve resolutions and recording speeds that exceed the resolutions and recording speeds of the sensor arrays being utilized.
