For controlling access to a system resource in a processing system, reprogrammable logic located between a bus and the resource is programmed in a first mode to permit access to the resource and is programmed in a second mode to at least restrict access to said resource via the bus. The resource can be a critical area of storage holding or identifying critical operational parameters or critical operational software relating to the processing system.
