The invention relates to biologically degrading polymersformed of monoethylenesaturated dicarbonic acids and/or theirsalts, monoethylenesaturated monocarbonic acids and/or theirsalts, individual unsaturated monomers which after hydrolysis canbecome monomers with a hydroxyl group covalently bound to theC-C-chain, and under specific conditions - other radiallycopolymerizing monomers, the sum of the above monomers amountingto 100%. The invention also relates to a method for thepreparation of these polymers by radical polymerization andhydrolysis in aqueous medium, to their use as additives orco-structuring additives in detegrents, in the treatment ofcotton, as bleaching stabilizers and anxiliary materials intextile printing and in the manufacture of leather, for theinhibition of water hardness and as dispersion agents.
