Corrosion is inhibited in hydrochloric acid solutions used to acidize wells, by adding to the solutions a corrosion inhibiting composition comprising cinnamaldehyde or a substituted cinnamaldehyde together with a reaction product of a C3-6 ketone such as acetophenone, thiourea or a related compound, formaldehyde and hydrochloric acid.
