The indicator shows the position of an aircraft (H), particularly a helicopter, w.r.t. to a beam (F) emitted by a source (9). The system includes at least one detector comprising a sensor which is able to detect the beam (F), and a display unit (3) linked to the detector. The detection unit determines the position of the aircraft (H) w.r.t. the beam (F) in at least one predetermined direction, and also detects the complete passage of the aircraft through the beam. The display includes a fixed marker (6) indicating the position of the aircraft, and a mobile marker (7) indicating the position of the beam. The separation between the two markers is dependent on the angular separation between the aircraft and the beam. A third indicator (8) shows the sense of displacement of the aircraft in the predefined direction in order to capture the beam, with this last indicator only being activated after the aircraft has made a complete passage across the beam.
