The packaging container comprises a base and side edges, and is formed from two outer layers. It is made of a liquid-tight material in compact and/or foamed form, especially a plastics, with an intermediate layer made of a liquid-absorbing material. The intermediate layer covers at least the floor area, and the outer layers are adhered together. The outer upper layer has holes in it over the floor region, through which the liquid can pass to the intermediate layer. At least one of the outer layers (1,3) has an inner surface (1a,3a) that comes into contact with the intermediate layer, which is roughened. The outer layers and the intermediate layer are preferably made of polystyrol, polyethylene or polyester. Use - For use as a packaging container, e.g for foods. Advantage - The container has improved absorption capability.
