The input device (30) transfers an input signal to the game port (16) of a computer. The game port includes a capacitor (18) and a detector circuit (20) for sensing the charge time of the capacitor to a threshold voltage, discharging the capacitor upon reaching the voltage, and for transferring the detected charge time as an input to the computer. A first charging circuit (36) is connected to the capacitor for quick charging. A second charging circuit is activated in accordance with the input signal. A control circuit (34) activates the second charging circuit such that the capacitor is rapidly charged to the threshold voltage.
