The assembly to impose a longitudinal fold on separate incoming sheets, at short intervals, has an initial folder (130) with a folding unit (21) which travels with the sheets (1) and at a slower speed. It presses each prefolded sheet against a lower table and a retarding brake cam (57). A final folder (134) has at least two tine-shaped moving folding blades (58) over a longitudinal opening (132) in the table. In the active setting, they push the fold through the opening (132) against folding rollers (61) to be taken off. In the inactive setting, they are clear of the following sheets (1).
