1,006,616. Magnetic filters. E. A. F. DING- LINGER. Sept. 18, 1962 [Sept. 19, 1961], No. 35502/62. Heading B2J. A magnetic filter has a valve arrangement 3, 6, 7 by means of which the ratio of liquid flowing radially to that flowing longitudinally of magnetic elements 2 may be adjusted. The position of the valve is controlled by a piston motor 9 which in its uppermost position causes liquid flow to be from inlet 11 to a cylindrical screen 4 from which it flows in a generally radial direction past elements 2. At its lowest flow controlling position the inner skirt of the screen 4 is closed by a cone plug 7 so that liquid flow is diverted into a direction generally axial of the elements 2. With intermediate positions of the valve the flow pattern is correspondingly modified. To clean the elements a flange 10 on the upper part of cylinder 4 gives passage to the elements through rubber or plastics bushes (not shown) and these bushes wipe the elements clean as the motor 9 lowers the valve to its lowest extent. The filter is flushed in reverse and the cylinder 4 may be vibrated to dislodge precipitate. |
