PURPOSE:To prevent the jitter of a pixel clock from occurring and to improve picture quality by setting the effective beam diameter in the main scanning direction of a recording optical beam larger than picture element pitch. CONSTITUTION:An optical beam is generated from a light source 15, and the preset value of light output is set based on the density of a recording picture element at a light output setting means 30, and modulation with a prescribed input waveform is performed so as to raise the light output of the optical beam gradually for each picture element with the lapse of time by a modulation means 28. Also, the light output of the optical beam is formed with the prescribed input waveform until the light output arrives at the preset value by an input waveform forming means 20, and a recording medium 43 is scanned with a modulated optical beam and an image is recorded by recording means 40, 41, 46, and 70. The effective beam diameter in the main scanning direction of the optical beam projecting the recording medium 43 is set larger than the pixel pitch. Thereby, it is possible to make the jitter of the pixel clock hard to visualize, and to improve the picture quality. |
