PURPOSE:To make it possible to refill ink and to obtain an ink tank capable of recycling, a recording head having the tank and a method of detecting residual ink by providing one or more ink chamber communicating to an ink- supplying chamber containing an ink absorbing member and storing an ink, and a detecting means of detecting residual ink quantity. CONSTITUTION:When an ink level in an ink chamber (b) is lower than upper electrode of two electrodes 4, resistance between the two electrodes rapidly rises up and a voltage between the two electrodes is generated, thereby the detecting of residual ink quantity is carried out. The voltage is directly or via a voltage-conversion circuit 300, A/D-converted by means of an A/D convertor in a connecting section. When the detected value is greater than a predetermined value Rth, an alarming device 400 that informs an operator of a timing of injecting an ink, is activated. At that time, an operation of urging refill of ink and stopping of the printing or the like is executed. As one of the refill methods, a stopper 51 of an ink-injecting inlet 5 of an ink chamber (b) is removed and an ink is injected into the ink chamber (b) by using a syringe 52 or the like.
